Together we can make a difference

Penrith Building Society joins forces with the Pride in Penrith Lottery

Launch of Affinity Account

Date: 30th July, 2012

This week Penrith Building Society launches its first Affinity Savings Account with the Pride in Penrith Lottery; which raises funds for local projects, events and good causes.

The account, which was launched at the Penrith Agricultural Show, is an additional way for people to be part of the award winning Pride in Penrith Lottery initiative.  The Lottery was set up in 2010 with the objective of improving the town, ensuring local events continue to take place, helping local good causes and ensuring community spirit remains as it faces changes.  The Lottery gives local people the opportunity to contribute to the town’s well being as all the money raised through the Lottery goes back into the community.

By opening a Pride in Penrith Lottery Affinity Account with Penrith Building Society people can be part of the initiative and help shape the future of Penrith without it costing them a penny.  Penrith Building Society will make an annual donation to the Pride in Penrith Lottery based on the size of the balances held in all Pride in Penrith Lottery Affinity Accounts.  This means that the more supporters who save in the scheme, the bigger the cash amount may be to the Pride in Penrith Lottery and therefore help to make a greater difference to the town we love.

We are delighted that our first Affinity Account is for the Pride in Penrith Lottery. The Society supports a number of community, cultural, sporting and educational causes in Eden and this initiative is one way we can make an even bigger impact -we are really pleased that we can be part of it.  We hope that we can help towards raising even more money to give back to good causes in the town and I am sure that people will want to get involved and help make a difference.” comments Amyn Fazal, Chief Executive (designate) of Penrith Building Society.

Over £20,000 has been donated to local good causes in the past two years.  Money has been given to a variety of projects, some of which include Eden Community Radio, Hospice at Home, Penrith in Bloom, Penrith Christmas Lights, Eden Arts, Tynefield Drive Day Care Centre, Penrith Bowling Club, Newbiggin & Penruddock Playgroup, Penrith Swimming Club, Wetheriggs United, Penrith Cricket Club, Tirral & Sockbridge Community area.

The Pride in Penrith Lottery can only continue to donate money to local good causes with the support of members and new members joining.

“The Pride in Penrith Lottery has been recognised nationally as a unique and outstanding venture that supports the local area and raises money to help fund events, projects and community initiatives.  A lot of these projects would not have received funding if it had not been for the Lottery.  We encourage people to join the Pride in Penrith Lottery to help us sustain this initiative as we can only keep generating money with the generous support of our members.”  Comments Richard Utting, Promoter for the Lottery

The Pride in Penrith Lottery costs less than £2 a week to join and members can be in with the chance of winning up to £5,000 as well as knowing the money they put into the Lottery goes back into the town.  For those people who might be struggling financially, the new Affinity Account with the Penrith Building Society is an alternative means of “doing your bit” for the town.  The Lottery also sells Pride in Penrith scratch cards in Maggie’s Bakery, Booths and The Winehouse of Penrith – there are lots of ways to get involved and help make a difference to Penrith and the local area.

The Pride in Penrith Lottery is an independent, not-for-profit organisation which is run by volunteers from the town that are all passionate about making a difference to the local area and raising money for local initiatives.
