Together we can make a difference

Penrith Canoe club paddle away with a grant

Date: 15th October, 2012

The board of the Pride in Penrith Lottery are delighted to announce they have recently awarded Penrith Canoe Club a grant of £900.  The grant, which was presented earlier this month to Tim Mather, Chairman of Penrith Canoe Club is a welcome cash injection for the club which was only set up in September.

The grant will be used for essential equipment for the club, particularly for some buoyancy aids which are vital for the safety of the club members.  Canoeing is becoming even more popular in the UK after the recent Olympic Games, with Great Britain achieving their biggest canoeing medal haul ever; winning gold and silver in the slalom and gold and bronze in the sprint.

Tim Mather, Chairman of Penrith Canoe Club commented
“We are delighted to have received a grant from the Pride in Penrith Lottery for new equipment.  The club is very new, but we hope to encourage more members to join in and learn Kayaking skills and compete in Canoe polo.  With the support of the Pride in Penrith Lottery we can buy essential equipment that will help the club thrive”

The Penrith Canoe Club hopes to develop the sport of canoe polo in Cumbria and aims to compete in the Northern England canoe polo league; carrying on the legacy of sport in the UK and encouraging more participation from people of all ages.
